College responding to the need for improved access to care

Message from the Registrar & CEO

Message from the Registrar & CEO

Improving access to safe, competent care is critical to Nova Scotians. It is the only strategic theme on the College’s Strategic Plan.

The College has a central role in addressing access to care. As the regulator of the medical profession, the College establishes the requirements for entry to practice in our province. This work is led by the College’s Registration Policy Committee composed of practising family physicians and other specialists. The committee is supported by the College’s governing Council of practising physicians and public members, all of whom are focused on improving access to safe care.

This brief report highlights our efforts over the past year.

Licensing Data

The College is responding to the need for improved access to care.

We have opened our door wider for the licensure of more internationally trained, competent physicians. In addition to widening the door, the College has put in place policies and programs that offer the country’s shortest pathway to independent licensure for physicians internationally trained. Our efforts are leading the country.
