Welcoming More Physicians to Nova Scotia

Welcome Collaborative

Welcome Collaborative

The Welcome Collaborative is a 3-day orientation program supporting internationally trained physicians as they enter medical practice in Nova Scotia. Funded by the provincial government, it is the first of its kind in Canada. Over the last two years, 133 physicians trained outside of Canada have attended the Welcome Collaborative orientation program.

The program is informed by feedback from the physician participants and overseen by an Advisory Council made up of internationally trained physicians with representation from Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia. The Welcome Collaborative’s curriculum focuses on the fundamental topics that make practice in Nova Scotia unique.

Over the last two years, 133 physicians trained outside of Canada have attended the Welcome Collaborative orientation program.

In 2024, the program welcomed 73 physicians, exceeding the program’s original estimate of 45. Of the 73 physicians who participated in the program, 36 were family medicine specialists and 34 practiced in other specialties, including internal medicine, anesthesiology and psychiatry. Three participants are associate physicians who practice under a clinical assistant licence.
