More physicians on the Atlantic Registry

The Atlantic Registry launched on May 1, 2023, and remains the only registry of its kind in Canada.

The Atlantic Registry enables ease of mobility for physicians licensed in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. The Registry streamlines administrative processes and lowers licensing costs for physicians to practise throughout Atlantic Canada. It is recognized as a viable model for multi-jurisdictional licensure as is being actively examined by other provinces.

This year saw a significant increase in the number of physicians requesting to join the Atlantic Registry. As of December 31, 2025, 526 physicians are participating including 341 from New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island who hold Full licences in Nova Scotia by way of the Atlantic Registry, 122 of whom are family physicians.

The College acknowledges that we are in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq people. This territory is covered by the Treaties of Peace and Friendship. We also acknowledge that people of African descent have been in Nova Scotia for over 400 years, and we honour and offer gratitude to those ancestors.
