Doctor Meeting With Patient In A Hospital2

In 2025, the College issued provisional licensure (Defined licensure) to 81 physicians. Of that total, 52 physicians are from Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada disciplines with significant experience in independent practice elsewhere in the world. Of this group, 34 were through the Practice Eligibility pathway. Those who had not previously trained or practised in Canada were oriented through the Welcome Collaborative.

To comply with the provisions of the Medical Act, physicians on a provisional licence require sponsorship and supervision. We are grateful to the practising physicians who conducted supervision and the physician leaders who provided sponsorship.

Of the 81 physicians issued provisional licensure in 2025, 79 remain in practice in Nova Scotia.

The College acknowledges that we are in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq people. This territory is covered by the Treaties of Peace and Friendship. We also acknowledge that people of African descent have been in Nova Scotia for over 400 years, and we honour and offer gratitude to those ancestors.
