Welcoming physicians to Nova Scotia

20250325 SP Welcome Collaborative 014

Welcome Collaborative

In 2025, the Welcome Collaborative orientation program expanded to four days to better support the integration of internationally trained physicians into Nova Scotia’s health-care system. The additional fourth day was added with a curriculum tailored specifically for family medicine specialists.

In 2025, the program welcomed 90 physicians into practice in Nova Scotia.

Of the 90 physicians who participated in the program, 59 were family medicine specialists and 31 practised in other specialties, including internal medicine, psychiatry, and emergency medicine.

The Welcome Collaborative is generating significant national interest, with ongoing discussions aimed at expanding its reach in Nova Scotia and in other provinces.

Provincial funding support for the Welcome Collaborative has been extended for 2026.

The College acknowledges that we are in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq people. This territory is covered by the Treaties of Peace and Friendship. We also acknowledge that people of African descent have been in Nova Scotia for over 400 years, and we honour and offer gratitude to those ancestors.
